Leon and Alina Mendez knew when they purchased their home that it was only a matter of time until they would need to upgrade. Last year, they took the plunge and decided to fully renovate their midcentury home.

The importance of making meals together

Cooking is a bonding activity for the whole family. Leon was a line chef for many years, and the designers at Lucho Interiors knew that a professional-grade kitchen was a top priority.

The exterior of the extension is sheathed in dark-stained cross-laminated timber with sections of the facade sliding away to open the bathrom area to the beautiful landscape outside. The sections can also be closed for privacy,  giving the home a streamlined, uniform profile.

Personal touches

The art featured throughout the home was acquired over the years. As a former advertising executive, Alina got to know many photographers and artists and has been building up her personal collection ever since.
